Summer knitting [Apr. 27th, 2004|02:20 pm]

Subscribed to Interweave Knits yesterday in a moment of weakness -- I'd been thinking about it anyway but then I found out that subscribers can download copies of all their reference articles! So I have gotten them all and am learning, learning, learning.

While I was on the site, I checked and found that the patterns for the Summer issue are up with yarn info. Nothing screams "you must make me" but there're several really nice patterns. I think my favorite is the "Juliet Pullover" (although it reminds me a lot of Rosebud, albeit much sleeker). The Snuggly Baby hats are adorable, of course, and the Mosaic Mitts look like a cool project for next winter. I love the Fiesta Tea Set although I'd never actually make it -- I just love the fact that it exists as a published pattern. Several tanks and shells, too, which if you got started now would be done in time for warmer weather. Um, if you lived here or further North, that is! There's a bunch of things that make me go "eh" too though. And the colors are pretty muddy. I don't know why people think "fall colors" = dirty old leaves.

I like that giant bag with the Habu yarn. I also like the mitered square rug. The colours are pretty muddy. I never understood that either, there are amazing fall blues (sky), reds, yellows, etc... It's such a beautiful crisp time of year it's kind of odd that colourwise it's associated with such a muted scheme.

And of course, I subscribed! :)

yeah, I don't get the whole muted color scheme. It's like -- have you ever seen a J. Jill store? The clothes are all comfortable, natural fibers, flattering....but the colors are all muddy. I personally just cannot stand muddied colors but obviously a lot of people like them, because they're all over the place.

Did you download the IK articles yet? I've only read a few but they're all fantastic so far. I think the technique ones I will print out and practice one by one!

I have seen J. Jill stores. I love their stuff, but the creams, blacks or weird blues are the only ones I would buy for me. I always wish there was a more of a range of colour in there.

I have not downloaded anything yet. I have tomorrow off so I'll be doing a bunch of catch up on knitting things, posts, etc... I did get a chance to look at them though and I agree!! The technique stuff looks really good.
